Though reminiscent of many default backgrounds of HTML yesteryear, Professor Bert Appward’s grey beard belies a youthful exuberance for a lifelong passion: identifying and nurturing world-class web applications and their developers. From the precursor dark dungeon days of MUDs to the first delivery of Hotmail, survivor of the great Flash flood of the Oughts and witness to the fledgling flight of Angry Birds, Appward champions the cause of web development while balancing precariously on its ever shifting leading edge.
Appward,
to the Future!
In 1998 he founded the Appward Academy—renowned for its vast, unwalled gardens—to recognize great achievements and foster advances in the field of web app development. Distinguished academy alumni include Gmail, Twitter, Facebook and more.
Now retired, Appward remains Professor Emeritus and presides over the Academy’s advisory board, lighting bright the path of the next generation’s web app developers.
His personal credo and Appward Academy motto is: Appward, to the Future!
An avid traveler and raconteur, Bert currently resides on Key West, Florida, with wife Ilsa and dog Rusty.
